School Gardens

Our school garden is a vibrant outdoor learning space where pupils grow, explore, and connect with nature. Throughout the year, children take part in planting, nurturing, and harvesting a wide variety of flowers, fruits, and vegetables. The garden supports hands‑on learning across the curriculum—linking science, wellbeing, sustainability, and teamwork.

The garden plays an important role in enriching our curriculum. In Science, pupils investigate plant life cycles, habitats, and seasonal change. In Design & Technology, they explore food origins, plan growing projects, and use harvested produce in simple recipes. Geography lessons make use of the space to study weather patterns, climate, and environmental stewardship, while Art lessons draw inspiration from the colours, textures, and shapes found outdoors. The garden also encourages teamwork, responsibility, and mindfulness.

Our pupils also take part in the RHS Wheelbarrow Challenge, designing and planting imaginative themed wheelbarrows to showcase their creativity and garden‑based learning. Each year, these fantastic creations are displayed at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), giving children the opportunity to see their work celebrated on a larger stage.

In addition, our gardens are opened to the public as part of Moseley in Bloom. This special event allows visitors to explore the space, celebrate the children’s hard work, and learn more about the environmental projects taking place across the school.

RHS School Gardening Level 3 Award

We are proud to have achieved the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) School Gardening Level 3 Award. This recognition celebrates our commitment to developing pupils’ gardening skills and embedding horticulture into school life. To achieve Level 3, pupils demonstrated their ability to sow, grow, and care for plants independently, while staff integrated gardening activities into multiple curriculum areas.

The award also acknowledges our focus on sustainability, plant care, and seasonal growing. It reflects the children’s enthusiasm, teamwork, and increasing confidence in applying practical gardening skills throughout the year. Reaching Level 3 marks an exciting milestone in our ongoing journey to develop a thriving, educational, and environmentally responsible school garden.

Support From Gardening Companies

Our school garden is greatly enhanced by the generosity of local and national gardening companies. We regularly receive donations of compost, seeds, tools, planters, and other essential supplies that help keep our outdoor spaces flourishing. These contributions allow pupils to experience a wider variety of plants, broaden their practical skills, and take part in larger‑scale projects that would otherwise not be possible.

We are incredibly grateful for this support, which plays a valuable role in enriching pupils’ learning and ensuring our garden continues to grow as a vibrant, inspiring part of school life.
